Scenic Drive
See a trifecta of Sweetwater County’s most impressive sights in less than a day with this scenic drive. From the abundant wildlife of the Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge to the majestic dunes of Killpecker and on to the ancient petroglyphs of White Mountain, this scenic and historic byway offers a stunning geographic and cultural tour of Southwest Wyoming.
Distance: 130 miles (suitable for high profile/four-wheel-drive vehicles only)
Route: From Green River, take I-80 to the WY-372 exit and head to the Seedskadee Wildlife Refuge. Go north on WY-372, right on WY-28, and then right on US-191. Turn left at Old Hwy 191 and left on Chilton Rd. to the Killpecker Sand Dunes. Go southwest on Chilton Rd. for about 8 miles, and then right toward the White Mountain Petroglyphs.
Disclaimer: This is a true “off the grid experience,” and cell service is limited! Make sure you have extra water, and a high-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicle with thick tires (and a spare tire) to traverse the dirt roads. Let someone know where you are headed and when you plan to return.
