Downtown Rock Springs has an award-winning Main Street for many reasons – one being the vibrant public art found around town. Larger than life murals, commissioned by the Rock Springs Main Street/Urban Renewal Agency, are inspired by the Southwestern Wyoming landscapes and wildlife, and the history of Sweetwater County. Next time you’re passing through, make sure to get a glimpse of these ten works of art and counting.
Rock Spring’s first mural was created back in 2014 by artist Valerie Doshier. Titled “Big Country,” the mural reflects the high-desert landscape found in and around Sweetwater County. Those who spot this mural may recognize iconic geographical landmarks including the Killpecker Sand Dunes and Boar’s Tusk. Wild horses and a steam engine are also depicted in the 126-by-24-foot mural.
