Indoor Activities & Winter Events
Sweetwater County, Wyoming is a sight to behold in the wintertime: red cliffs blanketed with fresh snow, sparkling, iced-over lakes, and plenty of interesting wildlife. However, sometimes winter vacationers need a break from the cold weather, so we have compiled a list of things to do that are completely indoors so you can stay toasty warm and still have a good time.
Winter Events
Ranging from motocross and hockey to rodeos and rock climbing wall, we have it all! Take a break from the outdoors to sit back and enjoy one of our great wintertime events.
Motocross and BMX
This winter, keep your eyes open for the Southwest Wyoming BMX Club and the Rock Springs Motocross LLCC races in Rock Springs. The indoor action takes place various Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the season. For more information on specific times, locations, and event details, visit our events calendar.
Basketball Tournaments
For many sports fans, there’s nothing quite like the sound of sneakers squeaking on a gym floor during a heated basketball tournament. If you’re one of them, you won’t want to miss the Flaming Gorge Classic Basketball Tournament. Check our events calendar regularly for more tournaments.
Rodeo Events
Come enjoy the fun at the rodeo, while it's cold out. Presented by Huffaker Rodeo Broncs and the Intermountain Pro Rodeo Association Winter Series, the rodeo awards riders with prizes, so there is more at stake than just bragging rights.
If your favorite rodeo event is the barrel race, you won't want to miss the Spring Series Barrel Race at the Sweetwater Events Complex happening throughout the season. Come for all three weekends of racing in March, April and May this year, and don't miss a thing.

Indoor Activities
Sometimes vacations are a little sweeter when you don’t have to schedule a time for indoor activities. Sweetwater County has several ways for you to relax on your own time and stay out of the cold while you’re at it!
Sweetwater Events Complex & Speedway
From motocross to stock cars to demolition derbies, the Sweetwater Events Complex & Speedway hosts an array of exciting events, and they’re all indoors! Check out our events calendar for a listing of complex events or just show up to participate in some of the best events in town.
Indoor Recreation Centers
Enjoy play areas for the little ones, pools for all ages and fun activity classes at three Sweetwater County indoor recreation centers. Rock Springs Family Recreation Center offers playtime for adults and children with a leisure pool, lap pool, party room and indoor ice-skating rink, plus relaxation for the whole family with winter ice-hockey games and figure-skating shows. Green River Recreation Center has an Olympic-sized swimming pool featuring a “tot deck” for the kids and two full courts for playing basketball, volleyball, soccer or tennis, among other sports. Rock Springs Civic Center features a 56-foot-long climbing wall to accommodate climbers of all levels, a swimming pool with a diving board and a hot tub, and three racquetball courts, among other classic gymnasium equipment.
Whether you are looking to escape from the cold for an hour or for a week, Southwest Wyoming has plenty of indoor activities to keep you warm and busy, so sit back, relax and stay a while.
